This story highlights the very depths of grief and what it can do to a family even as outwardly cold and calculating as the Malfoys.
Lucius was characterized brilliantly, showing the extreme differences between Draco's father, and Lucius Malfoy. Narcissa's pain was almost tangible throughout each scene, bringing tears to my eyes that I was hoping throughout the entire story that she would shed as well.
Extremely well done mystery author.
Thank you so much! ♥

I just love the Malfoys - such a bunch of arrogant twits, and yet they're so much family!

I'm so glad that you liked the different perceptions the character had of Lucius!
What a fascinating peak into the Malfoys, and into Harry and Draco's relationship, as well. I thought they were very canon: Harry's somewhat bumbling nature, but clear when it matters, and Draco angry and sensitive. Gosh, they're so canon I don't rightly know how they stay together. But your story isn't about why they fell in love; it's about a make or break moment in the relationship. I adored Narcissa's memories. I think you would do well to write more about this Lucius and Narcissa. Ever consider doing a story on the Black sisters? I'm dying to read a good one (know of any?) and I think you'd do well to write it.
Thank you so much!

And I'm particularly glad you thought my boys were canon! IMO, they really are very different in their disposition which would make their relationship a very difficult one, one which they have to work on ceaselessly - but then, I also think that, if they do so, it could be very a gratifying and happy one too *clings to OTP*

Ohhh, the Black sisters! Actually, I'd love to do a story on them! *ponders* (For a terrific Bellatrix, check out melusinahp's fics, no one writes Bella like she does!)

I really liked Narcissa's POV, the glimpses into the H/D moments, and the title, which is excellent. Great insight into the life and behaviour of aristocrats.
I also think that your Lucius is perfectly canon, and I'd love to read more about him. "because I love you, you obnoxious girl" - sounds like the Lucius we know:)
Narcissa clearly loves her son, the occasional consoling touches making this even more evident. Superb characterization, though I can't imagine Draco calling Narcissa "Mum". I like how Harry tries to be understanding and supportive of Draco in his own fumbling way.
I agree that Lucius' death must be a grievous and extremely significant time for the Malfoys. Well done.
Aw, thank you so much! *beams at you*

I had to struggle hard to NOT turn it into a mere Lucius/Narcissa fic ;D

Interesting that you mention it - I was quite unsure whether I should have Draco call Narcissa "Mum"! But then I remembered that he called Lucius "Dad" in OotP, and I've always imagined his relationship with his mother being somewhat, well, not closer, but less defined by awe and adoration, so I figured he might...
Oh. The grief of the end of a love affair juxtaposed with the beginning of Draco's and Harry's. I don't think I've read a story where Lucius dies that makes so very clear Narcissa's loss. Her emotions and the funeral experience were so true to life that it took me right back to my own experiences.

Beautifully done.
Thank you so much! ♥ I'm so glad my story rang true to you!

I think that Lucius's death must be a devastating blow to both Narcissa and Draco - however arrogant twits the Malfoys may be, they're definitely a close-knit family.
I absolutely ♥ this story. Your Narcissa is incredible and I especially adored her visit to Harry at his office. The glimpses we got of h/d from her perspective were fascinating. Yes, they fought and she thought Harry beneath her and her son, until she witnessed the brief moments of tenderness between them and recognised it as what she had just lost. *sniffle*
Aw, thank you so much, dear! ♥

I was quite unsure whether her - so definitely biased - POV would work at all, and I'm so happy that it rang true to you! (and she'll be one hell of a mother-in-law, poor Harry ;)
Wow. This was revetting. It held me captive. The characterizations were spot on. Narcissa's grief was palpable. I loved seeing Draco and Harry through Narcissa's eyes. Very Well done.
Thank you! I'm glad that you liked it! *beams*
this fic blew my mind. I loved how Narcissa's view of Harry shifted when she came to his office, even though he was clearly the same character throughout. Wonderful job!
Thank you so much!

I'm so happy that Narcissa'S change of perception/mind towards Harry rang true to you (I was struggling quite hard with this particular scene... :) ♥!
This was beautiful and complex, like those book illustrations from the end of the XIX - the beginning of the XX century when they knew how to do it. Beautiful!
Aw, thank you so much, dear, for this wonderful image, and for your rec! *hugs*
I love this...have never seen Harry being described so spot on and faithful to the young man we have learned to love in the books (I always think he is the one more difficult to get right)... and Draco being so very true to his canon self too. Using Narcissa's POV is fresh and very interesting to read - you have managed to make her so human - her intelligence, her way of caring and her prejudices, and her love for her family (her son, her husband, even Harry) comes through very powerfully without the text ever saying it out loud, and the fact that you convey everything through one event makes it very awe-inspring... your writing skill is remarkable! :)

Thanks for sharing... I am very much looking forward to knowing who is behind this one! :D

*hugs you* Thank you so much for this wonderful review, it means so much to me - I'm so happy you liked my fic!

For me, Harry's definitely the more difficult one to write! Despite all his straightforwardness and somewhat bumbling manners, he's definitely not a "simple" character (we wouldn't love him that much if he were, now would we? :)

I love the Malfoys! They're arrogant and mean and everything, but they're such a, well, real family - and once someone is accepted into this family (although it might take quite a while), they'll fully accept them, fight and stand up for them (yet Harry might have to realise that Narcissa'S still one hell of a mother-in-law ;))

Heart-wrenchingly beautiful. The pain of loss is palpable in your writing, and the anger at those around you carrying on, as though this isn't the most important thing in the world.

Great take on Narcissa, and all her upper-class prejudices. Your descriptions capture the essence of a mother, wanting the best for her child. I like that you show her gradually recognise that Harry is, in fact, right for Draco, and that they love each other, and finally accept that.
Thank you so much!! *hugs*

I'm so happy that my Narcissa rang true to you - at the end of the day, she would do anything, accept anyone, for the sake of her son, wouldn't she? (and, had he lived, she'd eventually made Lucius accept Harry too ;)
Beautiful, very beautiful. The narration flows really perfectly, the characters are so deeply canon. All the characters are really canon and fit the time and situation. Their interaction, Draco and Narcissa are breaking my heart. Harry and Narcissa the gradual recognition... is just so wonderful and sweet and believable.
Lucius, oh god, Lucius... I never really like him... but the way his family remember him are just so true. I can just feel their pain.

it's really as if they remembered two different men, her husband and Draco's father.

that line won me over.
*builds shrine to worship you*
Thank you so much for this wonderful reviw, it means so much to me that my characters rang true to you!

Narcissa and Harry still have a long way to go (and she'll be one hell of a mother-in-law ;), but I think Draco will not allow them to back down again...
This fic is going to stay with me - it's incredibly unique and even if you turn out to be one of my favorite authors - you've really done a brilliant job with the fic. Awesome Team Canon showing. Oh and wrote about the fic here
Aw, darling, you! Thank you so much for this lovely review, and for your wonderful rec, it had me squee with joy!

Seems that I can't do anything but outsider POVs... at least the narrator's alive this time ;D
Wow - Narcissa as the Empress really shone through as the pivotal character in this story. Her grief, anxiety, fatigue and love were conveyed so simply and powerfully. You conveyed the many dimensions of grief and love so well and kept the tone nicely balanced between sadness and happiness. I really enjoyed this very well-crafted story, thoughtful and rich little story - thank you very much.

Thank you so very much, dear! I'm glad you liked it!

I was trying hard not to make it too sad (and keep Narcissa from taking over completely ;)...
Excellent. Amazing and Excellent.
I struggled a bit at the beginning trying to catch up with everything, but quickly fell in love. It was an incredible description of the horrible, everyday things that happen pre-funeral. Narcissa's point of view was a very interesting choice. At some points I wondered if this might turn into a story about Narcissa with HD in the background but you slipped in the romance and their struggles very nicely. In the end, although it felt far away, the romance was clear and beautiful.

very very very well done.
Aw, thank you so much!

I had to struggle hard to put the damn woman in her place, she kept trying to take over the whole story ;D
Thank you so much! *beams*
